Curragh Racecourse to host charity race day remembering champion jockey Pat Smullen

THE Curragh Racecourse will host the inaugural Pat Smullen Race Day in aid of Cancer Trials Ireland this Saturday, 27 August with a charity lunch and auction featuring an outstanding collection of racing memorabilia.

The day’s race card is set to include the Paddy Power Supporting Cancer Trials Irish Cambridgeshire, the Snow Fairy Stakes and Heider Family Stables Round Tower Stakes along with the Newtown Anner Stud Stakes. Off the racecourse will be a meet and greet zone for fans to meet the jockeys, free children’s entertainment including face painting and an imagination station as well as live music and a barbecue.

The nine-times champion Irish flat racing jockey and winner of 12 European classics including the Epsom Derby lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in September of 2020, leaving behind him a young family.

Auction items up for bidding include original silks worn by champion Irish jockey Rachael Blackmore in this year’s Cheltenham Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup along with 18 holes of golf with Irish racing legends Ruby Walsh and AP McCoy. Bidding for a stay fit for royalty at the Cashel Palace Hotel in Tipperary Ireland will be invited along with a racehorse ownership experience with renowned Irish horse racing trainer Joseph O’Brien.
