The city of Copenhagen (coined one of the ‘happiest’ places on earth for very good reason) shone brightly as host of its bi-annual Fashion Week, the jewel in the city’s already fashionable crown. Between August 9th and 12th, 2022, Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) showcased a spectacular array of designer brands that have come to be seriously influential in deciding what’ll be in our wardrobes a season ahead. These brands are quintessentially Scandinavian in their ethos and identity, the event hugely anticipated and respected the world over for its predictable integrity, unrivalled creativity, down-to-earth practicality and not least of all, incessant fun factor! As for fun factor … let’s not overlook the influential street fashion culture at this event, which has equally made the city unbeatable for style.
On a more serious note, CPHFW is also known for its commitment to the planet. This season CPHFW upped the ante again with an unrivalled pledge to push the boundaries of sustainability, responsibility and traceability within the fashion industry even further. From the horse’s mouth, Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week, said: “Fashion weeks have a great role to play in pushing the sustainability agenda of the fashion industry forward, since we as a platform inevitably promote what fashion is. That comes with great responsibility toward the public and attendees of fashion weeks.”
Always displaying a social conscience – this time in standing in solidarity with Ukrainian Fashion Week, CPHFW through various smart initiatives focused on uplifting their fellow Fashion Week in times of war. An eternal hub for forward-thinking and innovative ideas, CPHFW also launched their emerging designer support program NEWTALENT, nurturing up-and-coming young talent. What a wonderful seed to plant!
To get you firmly in the mood (and in the front row), here are a few of our favourite shows:
The key looks this season included a good dose of 80s grunge. The quintessential Scandi stripes were to be seen in many places, sometimes very graphic, oftentimes soft and blurry. Camouflage featured heavily, as did tie-dye effects, especially in sport and streetwear offerings. Classic shapes were reinvented in many collections – trench coats, cargo trousers, floaty evening dresses and the likes – to fresh new effect. If one had to single out one garment piece that got royal special treatment this time around, it’s the humble collar. These were oversized, frilled, flaired and rather frou-frou!
Without further ado, let’s get back to the real macoy, the outrageously fabulous collections! We’ve rounded up some of the key trends to give you a taster of what’s been going down in Copenhagen. Sit back and relax, drink in the refreshing new colours and shapes, and get a feel for the new looks of SS 2023!

COLOUR TRENDS: Sky blue, acid green, pastel pink, lavender, coral, shocking pink and tangerine all have pride of place at SS 2023.
Always at the helm of trendsetting, this season at CPHFW saw various colour trends emerge for Spring Summer 2023. A few key shades dominated most of the collections: dreamy sky blue in all its hues – from fully saturated to totally washed-out, lavender, exotic coral, bright pops of neon green, subtle buttercup yellow and a touch of tangerine. Delicious ice-cream coloured pastels – always a Spring trend, popped up like wild flowers, often juxtaposed by accents of saturated shocking pink, royal purple and turquoise. Denim – nostalgic vintage-inspired double denim, bright or washed-out, made a cameo appearance in many of the collections.
SHAPES: Body-con and strappy dresses, skin-revealing cutouts, transparency, layering and rising hemlines are awaiting you come Spring Summer 2023.
Shapes also evolved a little from the previous season’s trend where hemlines rose … this time skirts were properly cropped, showing plenty skin! The trend for body-conscious fits also continued and most of the collections honoured the trend in showing off every curve to the full, on all body shapes. Furthermore, clothes were full of skin-revealing cutouts, to make the most of the cleavage and flesh-adoring summer trend. Layering – unsurprising really, considering the Nordic climate, is a practical feature built into many of the collections.
